WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

HI!

It's Wedding Wednesday again! This week I wanted to dive into the topic of wedding photography. When making your budget, I highly recommend putting photography at the top of your priority list. I was lucky and already knew exactly which photographer I wanted to hire. To be honest, I reached out to our photographer to ask which dates he had open before I even nailed down our wedding date. If you don't already have a photographer in mind, here are some things to think about when finding a photographer for your wedding:

1. STYLE:

What style of photos do you like? Look at potential photographer's websites and instagrams. Do you like what you see? Every photographer has a style. You need to hire a photographer who has a body of work that you already love!! Once you start looking at different websites and instagrams you will definitely realize what style of photography you like. You don't want to hire a photographer whose style you don't like because they won't be changing their whole editing process for you (and you shouldn't expect them to)!!

2. BUDGET

Like I said earlier, I 100% recommend prioritizing photography in your budget. I can't stress enough the importance of hiring a photographer that you love. Your wedding only lasts one day, but your pictures last forever. These photos will probably be seen by generations of people in your family. AHHH! Photography is so important! I know it's a big chunk of your budget, and it can be hard to justify, but you'll want to be able to look back at these photos and relive your wedding day over and over. Also, most photographers offer different levels of packages at different price points! Reach out to the photographer you love and ask for their pricing and packages. You're going to want to make sure you hire a professional photographer who can handle anything that pops up on your wedding day. Photos are the only thing that last from your wedding day (and the marriage obviously haha!).

Daniel wants me to throw in a little note that you NEED to hire a professional. He just said, "Your aunt with an iPhone X won't satisfy your photography needs!" To be honest, I didn't know he cared so much about this, but I figured I'd let him speak his truth here LOL!

3. SECOND SHOOTER

I also recommend making sure that your photographer will bring a second shooter. Honestly demand this, y'all!! There are so many different perspectives going on at once during a wedding. No matter how low key your wedding is, it's still going to be hectic throughout the day. A second shooter will be able to capture different angles that one photographer just simply isn't able to.

I love that we have different perspectives of our ceremony. The different angles are able to capture all aspects of the ceremony. I also really love that the different perspectives of the photos show how large the floral installations actually were. Having more than one photographer is the way to go, y'all! Definitely talk to whoever you are thinking of booking and see if they have a second shooter lined up!

4. PERSONALITY

Hire someone you mesh well with!!! You'll be spending quite a bit of time with your photographer leading up to your wedding with engagement and bridal photos, and a lot of time on your wedding day! Your photographer will probably be one of the first people to see you in your wedding dress! Make sure you have a good relationship! You want to trust your photographer, and be completely confident that you'll love all of your photos. You also want to be as comfortable as possible in front of the camera, and that is so much easier to do if you're comfortable with your photographer. Also, a good photographer knows how to make people feel comfortable in front of the camera as well.

5. TURN-AROUND TIME

How long will it take to get your images back? Your photographer will have a typical timeline already figured out. Be aware of this and make sure you talk to your photographer about it. Don't expect your photos back by the time your back from your honeymoon if your photographer has a 6-8 week turn-around period! Be realistic about this!!

There is a lot that goes into figuring out which photographer you want to book! Once you find the one though, it is the best feeling! You want to trust your photographer and love their work. That's the bottom line, y'all. The investment is WORTH IT because it will give you peace of mind, and photos you LOVE.

I'll go ahead and plug my photographer here. BJ Matthews of B. Matthews Photo is based in Little Rock, AR, but regularly travels all over. You can find him here and here

See you next time!
